| Three Elbert County teens have been arrested on burglary
charges. In a press release from Sheriff Barry Haston, he advised
the Deputies were called to a burglary on Thursday at 1283 Golf Course
Road. The victim, Danny Burt reported guns , a television and other
assorted items missing from the residence. Through the investigation,
three suspects were identified in the case. On Friday afternoon, Elbert
County Investigators arrested Laquan Heard, age 17 of Sunny Brook
Apt. M-4, Chance Reed, age 17 of 188 College Avenue, Ricky N. Hamm,
age 17 of 1243 Limo Road charging each of them with burglary charges.
Some of the stolen property has been recovered and the investigation
is continuing. |
An Elbert County man was arrested on Wednesday morning
in connection with several burglaries. In a press release from Sheriff
Barry Haston he advised that several burglaries were reported at hunting
cabins on Hulmes Chapel Road on February 19.
Sheriff Haston stated evidence was obtained this week linking Barry
Black, age 52, of Harley Rucker Road, to the crimes. Sheriffs office
investigators obtained two arrest warrants for Black charging him
with the burglaries. During his arrest , Black attempted to run and
was quickly apprehended by Deputies and taken into custody.
Barry Black has been charged with Burglary ( two counts) and obstruction
of an officer(m).
He is also facing charges of theft by taking motor vehicle in connection
with a vehicle reported stolen off Harley Rucker Road by the Sheehan
Pipeline on Tuesday. The vehicle was recovered a short time later.
A probation hold has also been placed on Black and he is being held
at the Elbert County Detention Center.

Gun Found at School 03/04/2010
Elbert County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a gun that was
located at the Elbert County Middle School on Thursday. School Resource
Officers were notified by administrators that they had located the
weapon after a tip they had received. The weapon was a Smith and
Wesson 38 revolver and was located in a locker. Sheriff Haston advised
that no ammunition was found with the weapon. Through the investigation
it is believed that the weapon was brought to school by a juvenile
with the intention of selling the weapon. It is believed that the
weapon was possibly brought to school on Monday and was possessed
by two other students before the weapon was secured. Sheriff Haston
advised that this is still an ongoing investigation. All three juveniles
have been charged with Weapon on School Property and are being held
at a Youth Detention Facility. |

Three individuals face an array of charges after a search warrant
and meth lab components were located at a residence on Bellew Drive.
Sheriff Haston advised that investigators had been monitoring the
activity at 2261 Bellew Drive for sometime due to complaints of
drug activity. Intelligence had also been gathered that there was
a unknown female frequenting this location who was known as a “meth
cook”. This information had been compiled with information from
other law enforcement agencies throughout the region who had received
the same information yet numerous attempts to identify her and apprehend
her had been unsuccessful. Through surveillance conducted at the
location a female fitting the description was observed in and out
of the residence. Surveillance teams also observed several individuals
going and coming from the location for short periods of times some
with children and one carrying an infant entering the residence.
Deputies conducted a raid at the location where a considerable amount
of drug paraphernalia was located, marijuana and methamphetamne,
the finished product. Deputies also located in a back bedroom in
a large carry bag a meth lab, which is commonly known as a one-pot
cook method. Sheriff Haston advised that all of the components were
in the bag to set up and make methamphetamine - the good thing is
they had not started the process on combining the chemicals. Charged
is David Saxon, age 41, of 2261 Bellew Drive who has been charged
with possession of marijuana and conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.
Christopher Ray Ogle, age 20, of 41 Beaver Run Road in Watkinsville
has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy
to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of drug related objects.
The female who was located at the residence is tentatively identified
as Robin Michele Drake who is believed to be from Alabama but at
the time of arrest gave an address in Danielsville, Ga. Drake has
a extensive criminal history and has numerous aliases. All three
are being held at the Elbert County Detention Center.

| On Thursday’s afternoon Elbert County Sheriff’s deputies
made a drug bust in what Sheriff Haston is calling one of the largest
of his administration. Gregory Lamar Norman, age 27 of 1013 Evergreen
Drive, Elberton has been charged with Trafficking in Marijuana by
Elbert County Investigators after a traffic stop was conducted on
the vehicle he was operating on GA Hwy 17 at the Over Head Bridge.
In the news release, Sheriff Haston advised that this bust was very
significant due to the volume of drugs that Norman was suspected of
selling in this area. Norman had been the target of a lengthy investigation
for months and had been previously arrested in October 2009 by Elbert
County Investigators for possession of marijuana with the intent to
distribute and tampering with evidence. Deputies had been conducting
surveillance on Norman prior to the traffic stop where it was discovered
that Norman was transporting 20lbs of marijuana in the trunk of vehicle
he was operating. There were 10 individual gallon bags of marijuana
with approx. one pound each in the bags and a 10lb brick of compressed
marijuana. The street value of the marijuana seized would be valued
at approx. $35,000.00 Sheriff Haston advised. To be charged with trafficking
in marijuana a person must possess in excess of 10 lbs. Norman is
being held in the Elbert County Detention Center where bond has been
denied by an Elbert County Magistrate Judge. |

Elbert County Sheriff’s Deputies along with the US Marshalls from the
Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force have apprehended a fugitive wanted
in Florida for Armed Home Invasion Robbery charges. Sheriff Haston identified
the man as Frank Joseph Desalvo, age 38 who at the time of his arrest
was using the address of 2266 Nick Volly Road in Bowman. Deputies were
notified Friday by the US Marshall Service that they had a team en-route
to Bowman requesting assistance due to information they had received where
they believed that Desalvo was at the above location. US Marshalls had
been working on tracking Desalvo for several days. Law enforcement officers
went to the location where Desalvo was taken into custody. Desalvo is
being held at the Elbert County Detention Center where he has signed a
waver of extradition agreeing to return to Florida.
According to warrants issued from Santa Rosa County Florida, Desalvo along
with another accomplice who had already been taken into custody by Santa
Rosa County had went to a residence where they had robbed a female victim
at gun point. The female victim was detained in the residence after she
attempted to get away while Desalvo and his accomplish ransacked the residence.
Desalvo also faces additional charges in connection with the robbery of
Felony theft and weapons charges.
